Floater

This collage I put together represents a very fond memory I have of me on the beach in South Padre Island over spring break 2017. I decided to expand my mind through a little piece of paper that i let sit on my tongue for an hour or so before feeling the effects. It was around 2 in the afternoon and as i sat on the beach with a group of friends I started feeling like my thoughts were actual waves coming in and out and crashing on the shore. As i let myself get lost in thoughts I started feeling like I was actually floating out to sea and disconnecting myself from the physical real world. It was such an experience that I dedicated my art piece to recreating that memory in the best way i knew how. I started out clipping pieces for my sky and sea from different pages and such. I wanted to go a little further and incorporate the use of paint to really tie everything together. I used actual sand to create the beach giving it real texture. The girl that is floating away attached to a string is suppose to be me of course and the hand reaching for me is any one who wanted to keep me down so to speak. I chose the phrase disconnect from the comfortable life because I believe once you're able to do that you will find peace within yourself because you're no longer worried about those that try to make you fit in or conform to what is expected. I made this to really satisfy my needs as an artist as well as commemorating a very influential spiritual experience. I have yet to be able to put that memory into words that most people would understand and especially an art piece. I tried to use my space so that it had an arial perspective. I used cool blues and warm sandy browns to compliment each other well and I tried to incorporate movement within the water.
